Introduction:

Many welding processes have been developed and refined to fuse newer and stronger metal combinations. New processes are still needed for metal, ceramic and plastic parts. Skilled welders will continue to be in demand in the future. A career in welding can be learned in a variety of educational settings, such as in high school, at a trade school, in a college or university, in the military, or in an apprenticeship program.

Employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to grow 8% from 2020 to 2030.

Salary:

The average wage for this career in Florida is $21.05 hourly or $43,780 annually.

Completion Requirements:

The entire program is 1050 hours. Students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):

OCP A	Welder Assistant 1 Welder Assistant 2	150 Hours 150 Hours
OCP B	Welder, SMAW 1 Welder, SMAW 2	150 Hours 150 Hours
OCP C	Welder	450 Hours
		Total Hours: 1050

** Welding Technology is a core program. It is recommended that students successfully complete Welding Technology or demonstrate mastery of the outcomes in that program prior to enrollment in the Welding Technology – Advanced program.

Advanced Welding Technology is 750 hours, but students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following OCPs:
